Fooddoings
with Deb and Steve
In early 2005, I started sending
emails to my Mom and Dad about, basically, what we were doing in our kitchen
in terms of food-making, food-planning, and food-related events. Much
of the joy and creativity in my day-to-day life is tied to food; and Mom
and Dad seemed to enjoy hearing about it. So I just started out sending
these brief emails as a way of tying our lives together more. Steve started
posting them on our website and encouraged me to share them with others.
Over time, the brief emails that started out this project developed into
more of a short essay with recipes and is sent out to a wider group of
people. I enjoy writing them and hope you enjoy reading them.

Golden Minutes
I used to volunteer at Oregon
Public Broadcasting in a radio reading service for the blind called "Golden
Hours." Volunteers read books, did live newscasts (reading the Oregonian
newspaper), ran audio mixing boards, and more. The program was run by
blind people, and interesting things seemed to happen all the time.
Recently, however, OPB shut
down the Golden Hours service. When I publicly voiced some complaints
about the reasons they used to justify the shutdown, OPB told me my volunteer
services were no longer needed. If you're interested in reading about
this shutdown, here's
a letter that the IAAIS (International Association of Audio Information
Services) sent to OPB in response to the shutdown.
You can also read about some
of my earlier experiences at Golden Hours.
Although OPB no longer supports
Golden Hours, it did not die. It is still available over the internet,
and it is broadcast from the offices of the Oregon Commission for the
Blind.

Pride and Joy Reunion
2007
On June 1, 2007, we had a reunion
of UMM classmates. When I wasn't pouring beer down my throat, I managed
to take a few pictures.
